Ecotherapy

Psychotherapy in Nature

Mary is now also offering the practice of Ecotherapy – where therapist and client work outdoors rather than indoors in a dedicated therapy space. These outdoor therapy sessions, which are currently available on Fridays only, are based in Indreabhán (Inverin), some 20km from Galway city along the Wild Atlantic Way (via R336).

Ecotherapy is likely to appeal to those who are drawn to the natural world in good times and bad. But it also promises enormous benefit to those who spend a lot of time indoors, perhaps working from home and rarely taking time to notice or experience their natural environment.  Being in Nature mindfully can be grounding, restorative and challenging as we are invited to let go of some of the comforts and compulsions of modern living.  With Nature as our guide, we can practice tuning into our sensory experience to help us find balance, perspective and fulfilment in life. Ecotherapy prompts us to reflect on our relationship with Nature and on how, if we respect and care for it, it can nourish and regenerate us at many levels.

Outdoor sessions take place in all seasons so warm comfortable clothing, sturdy waterproof walking shoes and raingear are essential. Sessions last one hour. If you’re interested in booking an Ecotherapy session, Mary will provide information on meeting points, parking and local amenities including access to public transport.
